Marriage

God created Marriage to be the foundation of life in this world.
It is the oldest Institution in the history of the world, and it is the very first covenant between God, and people. Designed to unite two different singular Creatures into one, in order to orchestrate a family composition. There is no other picture of Love, Devotion, and Purpose greater than God’s picture of Marriage. That is why the Lord Jesus chose the picture of Marriage to illustrate his Love for His People, He is the One that created it in the beginning.
Genesis 2:24 ‘For this cause a man shall leave his father, and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh’. The word ‘cleave’ holds meanings like: adhere, blend, combine, join, fuse, meld, among many others, and they all paint a picture of two separate things becoming one permanently.
There are at least four types of masterful artistries that are analogous with the beauty, and wonder of marriage. The first is the ability to blend, and combine various ingredients, and elements to create aromatic substances like perfumes, and many forms of incense, that produce wonderful fragrances. The second is carpentry, different types of wood can be joined together, or laminated to create beautiful furniture, and items. A very beautiful soft wood can be joined with a very strong wood in order to make a dazzling piece of furniture that will last for many years. The third is Metalurgy, different metals can be melted, and combined into alloys to create beautiful jewelry, and decorations. Alloys that are created to be strong, and resist corrosion. The fourth is weaving, different fibers can be woven together to make beautiful cloths that are used to make many things like clothing, tapestries, and quilts, etc. All these masterpieces can be made by combining two different things, and in them we see strength, and beauty. They are made up of different elements, and substances, yet when they are combined, they both together become something brand new, and unique.
God made marriage to be permanent. In Mark 10:7-8 the Lord Jesus quoted Genesis 2:24, and then He said: they are no longer two, but are one. Then He continues to say in verse 9: What God has joined together, man cannot separate. So we see there is a spiritual aspect of marriage that cannot be erased, because God considers marriage to be absolutely permanent.
The Lord Jesus also said in the book of Luke chapter 16:17 ‘that it is easier for heaven and earth to disappear, than for one stroke of one letter of the Law to fail’. In this verse He was stressing the absolute permanence of His Law. But it is very revealing to see what He uses in the very next verse to express that ‘permanence’. What does He use as an example? Marriage. He says in verse 18: ‘Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery’. So we see that the Lord Jesus Himself considers marriage to be absolutely permanent. Even Paul says in 1 Cor. 7:10-11 Let not the wife depart from her husband, but if she departs she must remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband, and that the husband leave not his wife. Paul stresses the fact that these words are the Lord’s, and that they must be obeyed.
The picture of Marriage is a very beautiful picture full of Love, Devotion, and Purpose. But it is also a very serious picture, that we all must consider gravely. If it is not treated like the holy thing that it is, then the consequences can be disastrous. We see stories in the scriptures about people who did not treat God, and the holy things with the reverence that they deserve and the results were fatal. We see from these things that Marriage is a great gift to Mankind, but it is also a great responsibility, and Men must treat it with the Honor, and Purity that it deserves, if they want to honor God.
In this day, and age there are truths about Marriage that are being suppressed because of unrighteousness, the most important being the fact that Marriage is permanent, that God considers it to be absolutely permanent regardless of what Man thinks about it. People must understand the true dynamics involved in Marriage, and respect it for what God says that it is.
Consider the atom, it is such a small thing, yet it is created by God to fulfill a purpose, and it is very hard to split an atom, but if you do, you release a catastrophic power that destroys everything around it. This is just like the destructive consequences of trying to separate, or erase a Marriage, it is absolutely impossible. The Lord Jesus said that His Word about Marriage, and many other things is more permanent than the very fabric of the Universe.
We must not be fooled by those who would try to profit from false doctrines that accommodate the worldly culture, believe the truth, and practice it. Repent from adulterous Marriages, and reckless divorce while there is yet still time, and treat Marriage like the very sacred thing that it is.
We must remember that nothing, and no one is more important than the truth.
